COLOR SERIES

Purple used to be a flex

Scarce dye made purple look royal. The leftover story is magic and creativity — culture, not a talent spell.

Violet and lilac washes with a small crown and twilight sketch

For a long time, a rich purple dye was scarce and expensive, so it got rented out to royalty and ritual. The leftover story in English is luxury, magic, weird-in-a-good-way. Twilight does a lot of unpaid labor in that metaphor.

Your visual system is combining signals that people casually call red-ish and blue-ish; BrainFacts would say the brain is constructing the hue, not finding a purple sticker on the sky. Your culture is combining concert lighting, gel pens, and old thrones.

If purple feels like yours, enjoy it. It will not make you more artistic on a Tuesday. It will not explain a low week. Curiosity is the point. Treatment is not.

The series

Psychology of colors — original, hedged, not a treatment.
