COLOR SERIES

White: a blank page is a feeling

White can mean reset, lab coat, or a room that is too bright. Clean is a design word — and a loaded one.

A pale page-like color field with a blinking cursor

White is a new doc, a lab coat, a bedsheet, and a hallway that might be peaceful or might be buzzing with fluorescent lights. People borrow “clean” and “pure” from it, which gets messy fast. Those words have been used to police bodies, not just bedrooms.

A white field makes whatever you put on it look loud. That is contrast — the same visual system BrainFacts is talking about when it says the brain constructs color from cone signals. Your eyes like an edge. A blank page can feel like a reset or like erasure. Both are stories you bring.

If “starting over” is standing in for extra pain, a palette will not fix it. Write one ugly sentence. Sleep. Ask a human. White space is a tool, not a personality, and not a clinic.
